Panthers Kickboxing Newsletter
- February 2010 -

Welcome back to the Panthers Newsletter. It’s great to see everyone back in training after Christmas, and a warm welcome to the new students who have joined us in 2010. Panthers is really going from strength to strength, with new instructors, a lot of competition action and even our own show planned for 2010! We’ve had mentions in national martial arts magazines and guys competing for more titles this year as well as title defences. Onwards and Upwards!

NEWS FROM THE CORNER

December was a real busy month for the Panthers Fight Team, these athletes rejected all offers of mince pies and Christmas cakes in order to focus on their training. Shows took place in Bridgewater, Weston Super Mare and Bristol.

Congratulations to all of the fighters, as we always say, regardless of the results it is a massive achievement to step into the ring in front of a crowd. Thanks to everyone who came along to cheer on the fighters, it’s always great to hear the shouts of the Panthers supporters.

Coming up we have events on:
6th March in Yate – with Rob Moran, Neil Richards and Ziad Sulieman competing.
25th April back at Bristol Broadplain – with Steve Marshfield (English title), Ryan Leicester (English title) and Ziad Sulieman. We might also see Dean Kelly back in action on this card if he can get matched. Dean is the current WRSA English Super-middleweight Champion.
8th May at Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre - see below…

AND THE WINNER IS…

Well done to all the students who received awards at the Christmas Awards Night, all well deserved - keep up the good work guys!

PKBC Student of the Year: Neil

Most Improved Student: Andy (Filton), James (Bradley Stoke), Callum (Bradley Stoke Juniors), Sam (Patchway), Alistair (Patchway Juniors).

Spirit Award: Darren (Filton), Sarah (Bradley Stoke), Laurie (Bradley Stoke Juniors), Mark (Patchway), Katarina (Patchway) Katie and Gemma (Patchway Juniors).

MOVING ON…

After many years at St Gregory’s Church Hall, the Filton class is now settled in to its new venue at The Filton Folk Hall after increased student numbers forced the move. Darren & Tom continue to do a great job as instructors and their Rocky theme tune warm ups are now infamous!

PANTHERS FIGHT NIGHT - MAY 8th

Headline news! Panthers will be staging our own show on May 8th. This is a massive step for the club and is putting Panthers firmly on the National and European map. The event will take place at Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre in the main hall on the ground floor. This takes a huge amount of organisation and we are very busy behind the scenes getting everything in place. We have had a lot of interest from other clubs and it should be a great evening. If you are interested in competing, please let your instructor know as soon as possible.

GRADING

The date is yet to be confirmed but the next grading will be in April on a Sunday in Patchway… Don’t forget, gradings are now only twice a year and we want to see as many students as possible taking part and moving up through the ranks to their black belt.

SPORT RELIEF

Sport Relief is here again in March and the Bradley Stoke juniors class will be running a sponsored ‘Sport Relief Mile’ in the class. This is your chance kids, to get your mum, dad, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends to sponsor you and raise money for Sport Relief!!
